And while Rene Montero said in his statement today that he has fully retired from politics - if Espat and the PUP government has its way - politics isn't finished with him yet.
Espat - who likes to project himself as the Belizean "rod of correction" - says public officials will have to be held to account:
Hon. Julius Espat
"We have to get to the bottom where elected officials are held accountable for their actions just and equally as any other Belizean out there. If we are arresting people for minor offences and they get taken to prison, and we do not do the same for elected officials, then the confidence in the system is broken and so this is a start. What we are doing is not only to highlight and solve the problems of the past, what we are doing is to make sure that no present politician or no future politician even thinks of going down this direction again."
