The main goal in reducing the spread is reducing the deaths because while statistics have shown that the age group contracting the disease are mid 20somethings to mid-30 somethings those dying from COVID or complications related to COVID are in their 60s.

The age of the victims is important, and it has been excluded from public information releases for weeks. We asked about it today:

Melissa Diaz - Acting Director of Health Services "Well the majority of deaths have occurred in persons 65 years and older so that's more than likely around 70 to 75% of the deaths occurring in 60 and older so definitely the elderly population, that's the population that is being affected with regards to severe or critical cases of COVID."

Cherisse Halsall "But they're have been some young people as well, famously those twin doctors who were in their 30's and that begs the question is there a high level of mortality in the overweight?"

Melissa Diaz "Well we know that the age plays a high-risk factor, so we know our vulnerable populations. The vulnerable populations are person 60 and older, persons with comorbidities, person who have high blood pressure, high blood sugar, which is diabetes, obesity, asthmatics, people who are immuno-supressed, these are the people who we have noticed have had higher morbidity and mortality in our country."
