And while BTL's chairman answered the most pressing questions, so did the Minister of Health today via Zoom, after weeks of eluding the media.
We asked about the spike in numbers that Belizeans have been anticipating since the Easter Holidays. And while some may have been been expecting a dramatic increase, thankfully the numbers have been only slowly creeping up. Still, Minister Michel Chebat said they're still a bit concerned.
Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health
"We've seen an increase in numbers over the last few days, Courtney, I think we've seen 12, 10, I believe yesterday was 7 if I'm not mistaken. And this is really on par with what we were expecting, we know that this virus is spread by human contact and we know that for Easter Vacations especially we all want to be with our family and our friends and so on and we were expecting to see a rise in that, definite."
"Thank God there hasn't been a massive spike and we're thankful for that, we are concerned with the numbers we are seeing though because we were really down to 3, 4, 5, I think one day we had none at all and I think that's what we want ideally but I think as a consequence of the Easter holidays, we would've seen an increase in the numbers definite."
