And what did the KHMH union members think of their unique way out of looming salary cuts?
Baird says that while the general membership couldn't have been more pleased with the exemption, executive membership remains concerned about the hospital's subvention which the PM has promised them won't be cut.
Cherisse Halsall "What was the reaction from the general membership when they heard that you achieved this exemption?"
Andrew Baird - Union Representative, KHMH Workers Union "It was quite applaudable to us the executive because many of the staff, in Belize people tend to believe in the rumour rather than the facts and so when we give the news we are not going to be cut, they were very happy but I want to say to our membership and staff at KHMH that it is not all over as yet. COVID is still here, god forbid that we do not have another spike that would create further economical crisis in the country and we still are on the wait and see game to see if our subvention will be affected down the line. From the meeting yesterday I'm very optimistic that the government will do what is necessary to ensure that the subvention with KHMH is not affected."
