Tonight Belize is better equipped than ever to reach that all-important marker of herd immunity, that's after a donation of 100,000 AstraZeneca vaccines made by the government of Mexico this weekend, and received at the P.G.I.A by Minister of Health Michel Chebat.

But tonight many Belizeans have raised the alarm on social media citing the shelving of the AstraZeneca vaccine in more than a dozen European countries.

But those concerns certainly weren't on the Minister's mind this weekend as he stood on the tarmac of the nation's largest airport profusely thanking the Mexican government for the opportunity to quote: "mitigate loss in our communities." Here's more

"The relationship between our countries is growing stronger and this latest act follows a long line of support from Mexico to Belize. The Government and the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Belize recognizes the efforts of our brother country and the importance of timely access to vaccines to mitigate the impact on families and communities by Covid19. We assure that these hundred [thousand] doses of vaccines provide to us by the president of Mexico his excellency President Manuel López Obrador and the people of Mexico, will go a long way in helping our people to recover from this crisis. Belize wholeheartedly extends its profound appreciation for this far reaching gesture of humanitarian support that has been made possible through the Mexican foreign ministry, the Mexican Airforce and direct relief."

To date, 72,453 Belizeans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 16,116 Belizeans have been fully vaccinated.
