And while we hope that a third wave doesn't crash into Belize, the fact is that if it does, we will have to go through it without a DHS. Last year, Dr Marvin Manzanero led the charge - he was at press conferences and on shows and always available to do interviews. This time around, the press doesn't have access to any such technical person who can field our questions.

As it stands, there is only a deputy DHS - and he was not at the press conference today - and the Ministry doesn't seem in any rush about filling such a vital post in the Ministry.

In fact, he brushed off our question, saying that the matter doesn't need to be brought up again despite the fact that there is no permanent technical head in position at the Ministry.

"Sir, there is a variant in the country and with cases rising we have to think about the possibility of a third wave and we still have no DHS, we have an acting DHS, but we don't have access to him. Where are we with that?"

Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness
"We are back to the DHS question - tried and answered many times we do have an acting DHS who is Dr. Murray and if you have any questions reach out to him, he will be happy to answer you."

Reports say there is also currently no epidemiological doctor in the Epidemiology Unit.
