And while the availability of the Pfizer vaccine will make it possible for persons under 18 to get the jab - if they are anything like the adults, there will still be some holdouts.
But the Police senior command is saying get the jab or go home. A new directive which came out two hours ago says, quote, "effective Monday August 9th, all police officers reporting for duty must provide a vaccination card…or a negative rapid or PCR Covid 19 test…those who fail to provide either of the above, must be sent home, marked absent and may be dealt with disciplinarily."
The document has stirred howls of protest from some police who reached out to us - they feel it is unlawful and coercive. But the department says it is the law for frontline workers - so they must comply.
Of course, sending police officers home en masse poses its own risks to internal security - so, we'll see what happens on Monday
