Last night, we brought you extensive coverage of our interview with Andrew Marshalleck, the Chairman of BEL.

But Marshalleck - who is a PUP-friendly attorney - is also the Chairman of the derailed Commission of Inquiry into the sale of government assets.

When Prime Minister John Briceno appeared on UNCUT he said that there was an intention to resume these hearings in the near future. Marshalleck told us that it's real and another hearing has been scheduled for Monday, August 16:

E. Andrew Marshalleck, SC - Chairman, Commission of Inquiry
"We start again on the 16th, and we're trying to locate the witnesses and serve summons as we speak. So, we're scheduled to go on the 16th."

Reporter
"Has there been any cooperation with those witnesses indicating that they will make an appearance?"

E. Andrew Marshalleck, SC
"No, they get harder to find now, but we've been able to find some of them. A number of them are away. People travel. People move. So, it gets a little more difficult as time passes. But, we are making that effort, and another hearing is scheduled for the 16th."

"The 16th of"

E. Andrew Marshalleck, SC
"August."

Reporter
"Where should our expectations as citizens of Belize be in terms of holding the people responsible for the abuse of the public purse?"

E. Andrew Marshalleck, SC
"Well, the Commission of Inquiry is a fact-finding exercise, and promoting awareness and presenting evidence of exactly what you've described is the first step to recognizing that certain things need to be fixed. The role of the Commission is not to fix them, but to point them out, highlight them, and give some indication of how we think things should be handled. But, at the end of the day, it's about the electorate holding its political leaders accountable for the decision they take, for and on their behalf in the management of their money."

We'll be tuned in - and will air it live - unless someone pulls the plug.
