But while their vaccination numbers may be climbing, they've gotten a bit lax on enforcing the regulations for civilians. ComPol Williams explained a situation he witnessed down south where residents are comfortable walking around without masks and said that it is something he will have to speak with the OC's about.
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"We do have a significant part where people are not in compliance, I can tell you I move around the country and just last night I was in Placencia and Seine Bight and again I was upset to see a number of persons continued to move around those two villages without wearing mask. I passed through Hopkins this morning and I saw the same thing in Hopkins. People are not complying, and I have to get after their commanders and tell them that we need to ensure that we enforce the provisions of the regulation. People can only move around so freely without mask because the police have become complacent in enforcing the law and we cannot allow that to happen. So, if it is I have to change OC to put people there who are going to ensure that the regulations are enforced, I'm going to do that because I have a duty to this country that law enforcement represent what the people desire and not what the police think that they should do."
Courtney Menzies
"Sir the last time we spoke to you we were talking about Spanish Lookout, and you were telling the officers to enforce the law there, has anything changed?"
Chester Williams
"Well, I know that officers had gone in, and they continue to go in and issue tickets but again you find that sometimes officers need to be pushed. If you don't point out something things to them, they pretend not to see, it's what you call in law wilful blindness, all of these are things are in play, but I don't know if it has to do with Covid fatigue on the part of the officers having been enforcing the provisions of these regulations from last year march to now, but we cannot be fatigue. The pandemic is still pretty much alive, it's still pretty much among us and the people of this country expect that as law enforcement officers, we still do our part to protect them and that is exactly what we must do."
