Still, the high number of deaths in vaccinated persons is worrying, especially since some other countries are reporting a much lower percentage. There have been concerns regarding the state of the vaccine - whether it's expired or if the cold chain has been broken. Dr Diaz explained that none of those are the case with any of the vaccines we have in the country.

"Absolutely nothing to do with the vaccine itself with regards to the batch number or with regards to the expiration. The country of Belize always has a very robust vaccine system in place. The cold chain is excellent, we more of the caution of ensuring of the cold chain is never broken. Our nurses have been fully trained, the public and the rural health nurses that mostly head the vaccine campaigns and our outpatient nurses they ensure that the cold chain is never broken."

"If there is ever a query, those are disregarded, so that's definitely not an option to say that okay could have had something to do with the vaccines. When you look at the deaths, they are from all over the country, from different vaccine sites and they are all from different villages, districts, so there is no one set trend to say."
