And today, Dr. Beer of the Ministry of Health echoed that concern, she is watching the number of new cases increase exponentially by the day - and she says that this New Year's Eve and New Year's Day should not be about any kind of gathering including anyone outside your family circle:
Dr. Natalia Beer - Technical Adviser, NHC Unit
"Every interview we have been insisting, Christmas and New Year is a time for our celebration with the family, not with the extended family, with the family you live with, so avoid getting together persons or families from different homes, its better to celebrate virtually and share virtually than to have a negative outcome of a preventable disease because COVID-19 if we practice all the public health measures, it will reduce significantly but the fact that we have now an increased number of cases was just that at some point, we let our guards down and I have heard persons referring that they got sick because they went to a wedding, they got sick because they went to a Christmas party, so it is expected that will happen. New years coming up, couples away from celebrating, it's family but family time with the one you live not with the extended family."
