Tonight, there are a staggering 421 new COVID cases to report - more than twice the number from last night. Also, the positivity rate for today is 21.2% - which is very high.
It's been months since we've seen numbers this high which supports what the Ministry of Health said earlier that it's likely the Omicron variant is in Belize.
245 of those new cases were identified in the Belize District, 70 in Cayo, and 34 in San Pedro Town. Our active cases, which just last week were in the four-hundreds, have shot up to 1,270.
There are also 14 hospitalizations and notably, 8 of them are fully vaccinated. And three out of the four ICU admissions are also fully vaxxed, as well as the single death that was reported today. That person is a male from Stann Creek. The death toll is now hovering right below 600 at 598.
