And many of those hospitalizations are from the KHMH. The COVID unit has worked round-the-clock for the past two years and it hasn't been easy. Tending to patients with various ailments, wearing PPE's all day - and not being able to take a restroom break in some cases, all while watching hundreds of people die - these are only some of the difficulties the doctors and nurses have to endure.
But they do it because out of the 35,802 total confirmed cases in Belize, only 605 have died - and while that's a large number it would've been much more without the healthcare staff. Two COVID survivors spoke to The Government Press Office about their time in the COVID unit - the trials they went through - and how the staff helped them on the road to recovery.
