And about 100 of those active cases are police officers - which brings the department back to where they were during the peak of COVID back in 2020. Yesterday we asked the ComPol if this high number of sick officers in any way impedes the work of the police - especially considering their human resources were already stretched thin. But the Commissioner isn't worried just yet:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"At this time, we have just little below a hundred officers who are confirmed with covid19 and we have another 30 or so in quarantine awaiting results, so at this time our covid figures are almost where it was when we had the height of covid infection in 2019 and it certainly is affecting our ability to be able to police the country we would like to. Nonetheless we are still doing our utmost best to make sure that we spread whatever human resources we have across the country with a view to ensure that we provide the citizenry with the level of security that they so rightly deserve."
