And data is also showing that this time around, more females are being affected, while in the previous waves, it was mostly men getting sick and dying.
Dr Manzanero gave us a possible reason why:

"Omicron or covid in itself is particularly it won't discriminate. At this point anybody can be affected, it doesn't matter the sex, what we are seeing is that perhaps now we are seeing an increase of access to services, even in the female population whenever there is the anti-natal and all of that, there is at that point you can screen. Omicron might be mild, so individuals who are accessing services are not going for covid. There might be very mild or asymptomatic, but if I'm going for any check-up, I'm being detected there as covid, so these numbers are being picked up as well and even with trends from before, its the female population who access services more, so you are going to see these numbers change somehow as well."
