Last night we told you about yet another consequence of Covid-19, one that's forming a looming health crisis that could specifically target Belize's children.

The good news is it's not another virus.

But the bad news is that a return to school could just be the dynamite that explodes the whole thing.

Here's more from Minister of Education Francis Fonseca who this morning told us he's partnering with the Ministry of Health to resolve the whole issue of kids who hav not gotten their basic shots.

"What's the plan when it comes to other vaccinations and not just Covid? We heard on Tuesday the Minister of Health say we've fallen behind on all the other necessary vaccines for young kids. What is the joint plan between your ministry and the ministry of health for that?"

Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture
"It's a very important issue and we've fallen behind for several years and that's important, because we have a long history in Belize of really being on the front end of vaccinations. We have a good history when it comes to vaccinations in our country, so we need to restore that. We are working with the ministry of health and we are working with our schools and coming in the new school year, I think what we want to do is have a rollout education program first to let the schools know what are the vaccines that are available and have a conversation and consultation with families. But that will be led by the ministry of health. We will support in whatever way we can and make sure that our schools are available and accessible for them to carry out these vaccination programs."
