And for the US, one of the key deliverables from the summit is agreeing on a migration pact - to stem the northward flow of desperate migrants, squeezed by poverty and drought - rushing to get into the United States.
They got that pact with the support of 20 country - and as President Biden announced it will have major financial support from the US:

"Los Angeles declaration is built around 4 core pillars. First: stability and assistance, making sure that communities that are welcoming refugees can afford to care for them, to educate them, medical care, shelter and job opportunities. Second: increasing pathways for legal migration throughout the region as well as protection for refugees. Third: Working together to implement a more humane and coordinates border management system and finally, making sure we are working together to respond and that's why so many nations again, 20 representing the entire migration route from Chile to Canada. We are eager to sign up to be a part of the shared solution and have step up with our own major commitments."
"To help our partners in the region continue to welcome refugees and migrants, we are providing economic support. For example, more than 300 million in new funding, humanitarian assistance for countries in the region. So when migrants arrived on their doorstep, they can provide a place to stay. Make sure migrants can see a doctor, find opportunities to work, so they don't have to undertake the dangerous journey north and we are going to provide millions more including to the world bank to support countries and communities that are carrying the greatest responsibility for migrants."
The Leaders had a working luncheon this afternoon, followed by the third plenary session which is currently underway. The event finishes tonight when the Leaders have meetings with Civil Society representatives. Briceno is expected back in country tomorrow.
