ABC Life Support is holding a series of First Aid classes for Kids that they're calling "Kids Can Save A Life Too."
The classes will be held all across the country and this morning 7News was there for the kick off of the first one in the city. That's where we heard from EMT Javier Canul:
EMT Javier Canul says an on the job experience pushed him to offer this training.
Javier Canul, EMT& Trainer in First Aid

"Over the years that I've been in prehospital care, I have been to homes and many times I see children crying in a corner, don't know what to do, sometimes they're alone with parents or grandparents and they're lost. So we realized that they can be the first link."
"If you have a chain like this, the link starts with the first person making that move, and most of the time who are there, the children. We tend to push them in a corner, but the children can save a life too."
And after the training students felt empowered in their newfound ability to save a life.
Ryan Humes, First Aid Student

"I think all kids should have an opportunity to learn what they are teaching over here in case anything unexpected happens."
"In a couple of hours me and my family are going to be going on a camping trip and so if anything happens I just want to be fully knowledge of what to do."
Kedyn Ma, Student, First Aid training

"It is important to learn just the basics. I really expected it hands-on and I really enjoyed it being hands on so I know what I'm actually doing when there is a medical emergency going on."
Thurman Cabral, Student, First Aid Training

"So far we have learn to open an airway on someone and then work on them."
And for Canul it all comes back to that chain of survival:
Javier Canul, EMT/ First Aid Trainer
"After the kid makes that call to 911 or to 223-3292 or who so ever, they need to call. The other person will take over And then each link represents somebody and eventually the person will get back home. If that child did not start the first link the chain wouldn't be completed."
"I think if every single citizen including children learn first aid we'll have a healthier nation, a better population where every single medical link connects each other."
Kids Can Save A Life Too' is a country-wide training. Its next session takes place this Sunday in Corozal.
If you'd like to get your child signed up you can message ABC life support or Javier Canul who also moonlights as Ozzie the clown.
