On Saturday August 20th, the KHMH lost its most senior surgeon, and the BMDA lost one of its dedicated members. 60 year old surgeon, Dr Jose Moguel was diagnosed with gastric cancer three weeks ago, but the cancer was already in an advanced state, so it quickly took Dr Moguel's life, leaving those closest to him to deal with a sudden loss and immeasurable grief.
Dr Moguel was the former president and a leading light of the Belize Medical and Dental Association. In a press release, the BMDA said,quote, "Belize as a country has lost a stellar, exemplary, caring, humble, compassionate, and dedicated physician." End quote.
The BMDA also highlighted that Dr Moguel allowed the association to gather the most members under his leadership and that he was actively involved mentoring junior physicians. He helped to forge fraternal relationships with Medical Associations in Chetumal, Mexico, Peten, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. We note that he worked his entire career in the public medical service.
