A double whammy of Covid 19 and the seasonal flu have hit Belizeans hard this December, and if it hasn't visited your home, you've definitely encountered it at your work.
And, tonight the Ministry of Health & Wellness is wanting that public that the forecast is for COVID cases to continue to rise into the new year, peaking in mid-January. This runs along with an increase in cases of the flu, which causes symptoms similar to COVID-19.
The weekly total of confirmed COVID cases has tripled since the start of the month, and a release says, quote, "The current projections from the Epidemiology Unit at the ministry show a rise in cases into the new year, with a peak by mid-January."
The release adds that the majority of the cases being reported are in the Belize District - but at this time the number of hospitalizations has not overloaded the health system.
The ministry urges the public to get the flu vaccine and, of course, practice the well known safety measures of hand washing, keeping common areas clean and using a mask in enclosed places.
