The SOE detention of a child has also raised alarm at oversight agencies. UNICEF also stepped in to offer assistance in a case they see as gross negligence. This morning at the Biltmore UNICEF held a workshop discussing issues affecting children and child protective services. Their Director of Policy and Planning says that they have reached out to the Ministries Of Human Development And Home Affairs regarding the case.
Dylan Williams, Director Policy and Planning, Human Development
"What I would say is that from my understanding, the Ministry of Human Development and the Ministry of Home Affairs have already met and are working towards addressing that."
"When we look at all of these issues affecting children, whether it is these child protection cases in terms of abuse, neglect, or otherwise part of what we want to ensure is that as professionals within the child protection system response or that of the juvenile justice system response that we are able to ensure that we are doing so from the best interest out from the child principal and so in doing so it's really that is why we are here today looking at what we have done recognizing the strength that we have in some of these areas, but also recognizing that there is a lot of work to do when it comes to the overall protection of our children and so building really on these successes and ensuring that we really are as you pointed out getting the adequate resources and ensuring that our front line persons are supported with the resources that they need to do so but also at the end of the day that we have all of these things with outcome that we are supporting families and we are supporting children."
