And while the clinic in its current state is an eyesore and a dire signal to the community - Bernard blamed the previous government and pitched for a happy ending - but without details on dates or funding:
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health
"Let me say that is no fault of this government, that the facilities, this facility has been there for years. What I can tell you however is that while that specific infrastructure has been condemned, the services are still being provided because we have moved over the services to other areas, for example, the mental health unit where we work, we are utilizing a space at the Mental Health Association, in their facility, where we could continue to provide service. We still have CleoPatra White, we still have the Matron Roberts where these people are now getting the services. And of course we would love to want to quickly go back and build that facility. So while there may be the negative out there that will say oh but then you have a facility that has been left to the rundown. I think that it's not just the issue of the infrastructure. And I think it's it goes across every government. We need to start to ensure that there's proper maintenance plans put in place whenever we construct any any building, whether it's in education, whether it's in health care, whether it is in housing, whatever. So, I just want to reiterate the point, though, that the services, the health care services that were provided by that facility for those residents, in that area are still being provided in other facilities so there is no obstacles or no, where citizens don't have access to health care services. Look at the fact that our NHI services is there. We are rolling out NHI And so our people in Belize City, especially in the Port Loyola area, will continue to benefit from the services in the other facilities. And when we get back to build the new facility, we will then be able to provide even much more services for the people there."
