Tonight, an American woman is in the KHMH recovering after she was bitten by a crocodile. It happed at a popular swimming location near the split in Caye Caulker.

Fortunately she was not seriously injured. She was airlifted to Belize City for medical treatment and is now in stable condition.

ASP Stacy Smith explained further as to what happened:

"Acting on information received, police visited the Caye Caulker health center where they met with Nicole Robinson an American national and businesswoman of Caye Caulker who reported that sometime around 3:30am she and other friends took a swim in front of sit and dip and while she was in the water she was in the water she was pounced upon by a crocodile which bit her on her elbow. She was transported to for medical attention and she is enlisted in in a stable condition."

A local crocodile expert said that pre-dawn hours is usually feeding time for crocs.
