The Government of Belize has pledged to assist with relief efforts in New Orleans in the wake of the devastating Hurricane Katrina.

In messages to both New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and to the Louisiana Governor, Prime Minister Said Musa expressed government's solidarity with the people and government of the United States and pledged to assist with any relief effort through the BDF and NEMO personnel. Musa pointed out that there are thousands of Belizeans living in the New Orleans area, including Councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt. Government has also offered to assist with travel documents for those Belizeans who wish to return home.

You are reminded that there is a message board on the Embassy of Belize in Washington's website for those Belizeans wishing to contact their family or friends in New Orleans.
