General Lee Tien Yu, the Commander of the Taiwanese Armed Forces arrived in Belize yesterday evening and began his whirlwind tour of Belize today. We caught up with the 4 star general at Price Barracks in Ladyville where he made it clear that his country's support for Belize now extends to our military.

General Lee Tien Yu arrived at Price Barracks at nine this morning where he conducted an inspection of the guard of honor. He was then whisked off to the Commander's offices where General Lloyd Gillett, Defense Minister Cordel Hyde and lee had a private meeting. After he was taken to the BDF's conference room where he was given a briefing on the BDF's operations in Belize.

Before leaving Price Barracks en route to Belmopan via Airwing's Defender Lee explained that he is looking forward to assisting the BDF.

General Lee Tien Yu,
"In terms of territory, we are about the same size. In terms of military situation we are also similar so there is a reason why I am here. As a friend we would like to share everything we have with our friends in Belize so we can grow together."

Brig. Gen. Lloyd Gillett,
"The Minister extended to them the opportunity to come here to Belize to do jungle training. Earlier this year we had some people and next year we will try and expand on the amount of people that they send here to Belize."

After leaving Price Barracks, General Lee traveled to Belmopan where he made calls on the Prime Minister. His schedule continues on through to Sunday afternoon when he leaves.

General Lee will visit a Maya site tomorrow and on Sunday morning he will lay a wreath for Remembrance Day. He departs on Sunday afternoon.
