Belize City and Dangriga are suiting up for a major battle on the football field. Wagiya and FC Belize have both made it to the finals of the Belize Premier Football League's tournament which began in August. Round one is Sunday on FC Belize's turf at the MCC Grounds. The BPFL's Manager Ruperto Vicente says it will be a battle royale. We also spoke to Wagiya's star goalkeeper Woodrow West on why Wagiya gave up their home court advantage in game one.

Ruperto Vicente, BPFL
"We have a lot of good players on these teams. For Wagiya we have the best goalkeeper in the nation at this point, Woodrow West. Charlie Slusher is also fighting for that position. So we have two goalkeepers who will be battling it out and proving to the nation that unless they fall down in the process, that is the only way goals are going to be scored. But they are excellent goalkeepers.

It is a home and away but Wagiya had given up their home turf rights. They are coming into Belize City and they promise that they are going to win the ball game so they are confident enough and if they have the confidence, we'll give them the support."

Keith Swift,
Why did you guys give up the chance to play at home for game one?

Woodrow West, Wagiya
"Yeah, that's what I said. That is the tradition because last season we tried it also and this year we are doing the same thing. I guess it is kind of luck for us because if we successfully make it here in Belize then we are going to have a big celebration over that side, both celebration for the championship and the nineteenth celebration for the Dangriga people too. So I think that would be something great for the Griga-lizeans too so we will just wait and see."

Game two will be played in Dangriga on November 18th. Next on the lineup for the BPFL is an invitational tournament with sixteen teams which begins on November 20th. The new semi-pro season will begin in February.
