Activist YaYa Marin Coleman is participating in a global African Activists Discussion tomorrow.. It's an international forum to discuss the Black experience of oppression in a global context.
She told us HOW IT RELATES TO BELIZE and why it matters:
YaYa Marin Coleman, Global African Activist

'When he contacted us, he was contacting us from a black lives perspective organizing in your country. After doing the interviews with people he realize that the experiences of a number of the people in different countries is not within the black lives context or how its framed within the United States, but that African people for as long as they've been African people have been thriving and struggling and fighting for the rights of African people in different ways and so while you may have Belizean people who may say that that doesn't have anything to do with us and again it's because of the lack of knowledge of self as African and indigenous people Maya people for example in Belize is when you understand that when you talk about systems of oppression you're talking about structures that work together as one for the same outcome where you have the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. When you look at the Westminster system of governance that system of oppression. We look at the church/state system that's a system of oppression. When you look at the policing of black bodies which has happened systematically for example from the enslavement of our ancestors to what happened on July 22nd, 2020 in Belize with GSU and the employees of the Port of Belize LTD. and Christian Workers Union it's the same thing. So the topics of discussion will be the colonization and systemic changes international solidarity and continuities future of activism and activist identity and so that's what going to happen tomorrow and then 2 weeks later he will post the conversation at the Instagram account africonvos."
The conversation will be posted at the "africonvos" instagram account. And you can find a link to that at 7newsbelize.com.
