US President Joe Biden has nominated an Olympic figure skater as the new US Ambassador to Belize.

Two time Olympic medal winner, Michelle Kwan is his nominee to serve as ambassador to Belize. The 41 year old Kwan is the daughter of Chinese immigrants and a long time Democratic Party activist who has worked as an envoy for the Department of State. She is also the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history, with those two Olympic medals and five world championships.

But it's not a done deal yet, because her appointment still has to be approved by the US Senate. No word yet on when hearings will be held.

Belize has not had an ambassador at the embassy since January of 2017, when Carlos Moreno's term ended as President Donald Trump was inaugurated.
