U.S. Ambassador to Belize Michelle Kwan made her first-morning show appearance on Sunup on 7 this morning.
She was on to discuss her new role, the special relationship between Belize and the U.S. and the shared values between both countries. But she also chose to speak on Gender-based violence and the role we all have to play in ensuring citizen security for all.
Here's a look at that conversation:
Michelle Kwan, U.S. Ambassador to Belize
"And there are shared common values between our two countries, of Democracy, of freedom, of fighting for human rights across the board and I have had wonderful and very successful meetings thus far, I have only been here three weeks but talking about shared challenges about citizen security, border security, again, fighting human rights, fighting for human rights and across the board working together."
"I think it's important to listen, listen to the community, listen to in gender-based violence, and trafficking in persons, listen to the survivors and to hear their experiences, to tackle the challenges at the heart because when you look at our two countries and how we share common values of democracy, of freedom, of human rights and like I said I've had really successful meetings thus far talking about the importance of education. I went to St. Ann's school and saw these kids just light up and hearing the perspectives of this teacher and listening to what they are learning from mathematics to, you know it was so eye-opening and striving for economic prosperity, I think across the board there are so many similarities --across the board."
