The BDF today received a donation from the U.E. Embassy. But for the country that exports some of the world's most dangerous weapons - you might be surprised to know that none of the equipment is for war making. In fact, it's for peacekeeping. Here's more.

Brig. Gen. Lloyd Gillett, BDF Commander
"We have two donations here today, one is a aircraft engine for our Cessna 182 aircraft that we have. This will assist us in providing support to the BDF infantry doing reconnaissance along the border, transporting people to and from different places in the country, and general support to the fight against drugs in Belize. The second donation is equipment, it is part of a donation of a million dollar of equipment for the lightning engineer company that we have formed in the BDF. It is equipment that we will be used during times of a national emergency, hurricane situation, or to assist the BDF if they are deployed to assist other countries after a disaster."

Robert Dieter, US Ambassador
"The equipment is provided through the global peacekeeping initiative that's part of the State Department really and the purpose of the program is to build up the capacity of the receiving country for peacekeeping operations in the event of a national disaster somewhere."
