There was a bus accident on the Western Highway this morning. Just before 8:00, a bus carrying cruise visitors reportedly heading for a cave tubing tour ran off the highway near mile 6. Reports are that no one was hurt – but certainly, a near disaster was averted. Eyewitness Roque Sosa told us that speed and a blind spot contributed.
Roque Sosa, Witness
“Well what happened is the gate opened and the truck came out of the yard to go up to the Western Highway towards Hattieville and the truck started turning due to that it had a long tail and it has to go across and turn and

I heard the bus coming, I didn’t see the bus but I heard it because you can hear everything coming and I stood up over that side and apparently the speed with which the bus was coming with, when it sighted the truck the only thing it could do was run off the road. Nobody in the bus got hurt, nobody got hurt. Another bus came and took all the tourists. Nobody in the bus got hurt as far as I know. Another bus came and took all the tourists.
I think the whole thing is attributed to speed and in addition to that you see that high bush right there. I think what they need to do is maybe the government or whosoever try to cut the edge of the bush or the drivers, in general the drivers need to be more cautious on a dangerous curve because that basically is a blind spot.”
The tourists were delayed for about twenty minutes.
