It's their 24th anniversary, but the first time they've publicly celebrated it. Today, the Immigration and Nationality Services Department held an open day at offices countrywide. We spoke with the director to find out more.

"Well this open day is to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Immigration and Nationality Department. It was created back in 1986 on this day June 9th. That is what we are celebrating here today."

"What do you hope to achieve with the open day?"

"Part of the objective of having this open day was to give the public a broader perspective as to what it is that Immigration Department does, most people are aware that we do passports that they check with us at the border when going to Chetumal or Melchor but we do a lot more than that and that is what we are displaying here today. This is where it

starts and we are looking to show the public that we can be efficient workers and that we are indeed trying, we are making a very significant effort to improve the level of the services that we offer."

"Why do you think it's necessary to have a day like this where you all explain?"

"Because recently we've seen that a lot of persons are not well inform about the services we offer. So by having this we can inform the public about the procedures that are need to be follow and how they can go about having the right documents and instead of doing the wrongs things."
