A group of passionate sports lovers has banded together to form the Community Council for Youth and Sport of Belize. They've got high hopes and big dreams for the future of athletes and of sports in Belize on a whole. Today, they held a press conference explaining why they feel it was necessary for a group to be formed, and what they already have planned for this year

"In coming together under one umbrella to have per say a stronger bargaining power when it comes dialoging with government and talking to sponsors. I found it very complicated to progress on my own, when I say 'my' I am talking about karate. There are several programs happening in the country but people are on their side doing their own thing. 'If I get I am happy I forget about the rest' we sort of want to change that concept and encourage that we form an umbrella organization that works together with all disciplines in Belize."

"We are trying to first give to the youth of this country something to do better than drugs and crime, that is our principal objective. And help those people that have no opportunity to do sport. With sport we can help a lot of society, we can create jobs, we can create things to do that we lack of."
