Tomorrow, for the first time ever, the regular Tuesday Cabinet meeting will be held in the NEMO conference room. And that's because a malfunctioning toilet in the prime minister's office flooded out an entire wing of the Sir Edney Cain building in Belmopan.
According to cabinet Secretary Jim Murphy, the toilet in the Prime Minister's office sprang a leak when the hose that connects the tank on the back of the toilet to the main simply broke. It happened sometime on the weekend when no one was in office and it just leaked, and leaked and leaked. When workers reported this morning, the place was inundated; the prime minister's office had an inch of water covering the carpet as did the adjoining Cabinet room.
It was even worse on the second floor at the ministries of housing and foreign trade. According to Murphy, in the ministry of housing, part of the ceiling collapsed and several files and computers were damaged.
Work to restore the offices is underway at this hour.
The PM's office should be restored by tomorrow and Cabinet will meet in the NEMO conference room. The replacement hose cost 7 dollars; there is no estimate on the damages, but it is in the thousands of dollars.
