Later on, Fonseca's Cabinet colleague, Rodwell Ferguson made an announcement of his own that the Ministry of Transport, under his leadership, has tried to make improvements to all the bus terminals countrywide.
He said that he is hoping to improve public transportation for Belizean commuters. Here are those remarks:
Hon. Rodwell Ferguson - Minister of Transport "I can stand here today and tell you that there's a difference at all the terminals across the country of Belize. I touched base with all my colleagues, and I asked them to find suitable candidates to be able to suit and fit those positions. I must say that they found some wonderful candidates, and the terminals are functioning today much better than they were 3-4 months ago. With the limited money that we had in the Ministry, I told my CEO that we must be able to do something at every terminal across the country, and we can say that over the last 4 or 5 months, every single terminal has been upgraded. With limited funds, the money was spent wisely, with no over-stating of funds. We are trying our best to improve the transportation industry. We say that within 1 year's time, you will see a total transformation of this industry. We're going to make sure that we have a ticketing system. As I speak, we have a transport planning department to transform the entire transportation industry. Another area of concern, everybody wants to own a bus. It will come to a point where there will be too many buses on the highways. We plan in the very near future to establish an inspection unit, where buses, by SI, must go into those inspection stations to get a thorough inspection to make sure that their buses are road-worthy. We did an average, especially in the pandemic. More than 48,000 people are traveling on a daily basis, and they want to travel as comfortably as they possibly can. We know that our economy is not the best, and we cannot afford the better buses, but a time will come when the government will have to put it in place, that we have better transportation for the people of this country."
