And while sugar wasn't the main topic of discussion at the crop projection meeting, the minister mentioned that the sugar roads are in a much better condition than they were before. But now, he says his focus is on the village roads that have been left in shambles. And, though the government is broke, he vowed to fix them.
Hon. Jose Mai - Minister of Agriculture
"The crop is over so sugar roads isn't the main topic now but I'll tell you something, they're much better than what we inherited when we went into government and we intend to keep it that way, we intend to maintain those roads. Right now, the issue is the village streets, we know that for 13 years, millions were invested in the urban cities and towns, paving every street and roundabouts, there are so many roundabouts in Belize City that you get dizzy. Yet the villagers were abandoned, so we have that challenge now, to fix those village streets and we will do so. We don't have money, but we will find, and we'll procure and we will switch dollar to nomo nomo to fix those streets."
