Are you waiting interminably for your new passport to be processed? Has it been weeks or months? For many it has. And it's all because when the Department of Immigration ordered the first batch of the new electronic passports - it did not anticipate the demand that would be coming with it.
That rush of passport applications quickly used up the available supply of the e-passports - and since then, the Department has been playing catch up - and losing.
Today, the Minister said that the Department finally got a second batch and are now processing passports for urgent cases. He explained the shortage:
