And while we have seen major public pushback against these arrangements and the entire undertaking in Facebook comments, the UDP Leader is in support of it.
In a statement posted to his Facebook page this evening, he says he was consulted by the U.S. State Department on relocating Khan to Belize and he says, quote, "The presentation made to me...about Mr. Khan's de-radicalization rehabilitation and redemption struck a chord on a humanitarian level." End quote.
Shyne then writes about his own incarceration and a quote, "journey of atonement, rehabilitation and redemption" - and he said that made him sympathetic to Mr Khan's story.
He adds, quote, "The National Security experts that I have spoken to at home and abroad have assured me his relocation poses no threat to Belize's National Security."
And, perhaps as a grace note, he adds, "Regardless of our disagreement on very many Policy issues I trust that the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Cabinet would not do anything that would compromise our National security and put Belizeans at risk."
