At the top of the last segment - we told you about the alarming spike in femicides. Well, there's also been a concerning increase in the number of motorcycle fatalities and Cabinet has endorsed sweeping new legislation proposed by the Ministry of Transport.

You heard the CEO Chester Williams discuss it on this newscast on Wednesday and today a Cabinet release announced it as a, quote, "decisive plan to enhance public safety and modernize Belize's transport infrastructure."

It includes Mandatory training and certification for all motorcycle users, strengthening laws for the use of breathalyzers to modernize enforcement against drunk driving, and regulating tinted vehicles to enhance visibility and public safety.

There are also other provisions being made for truck operators, and car dealers among other initiatives.
