As he said it is a prestigious post, and there are others who feel qualified for it. When asked whether he felt any concern about what some may describe as "competition," Captain Soberanis stated that this is simply part of the process that must take place.
Captain Gregory Soberanis, Acting Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard
"I didn't feel any way really, um the coast guard we have a cadre of competent officers, um our senior staff has been trained at some of the best schools in this world. So we do have a competent staff and the coast guard has like I mentioned a succession plan so it wasn't an issue for me really, it is a natural part of the process of selection as it relates to who succeeds outgoing Admiral Bennett"
Soberanis recently graduated from the National Defence University in the US.
