And Lieutenant Ku also told us about the Coast Guard's operations over the Easter holiday:

Lt. Freddie Ku, Chief of Staff

"The Belize coast guard implemented an enhanced operation during the Easter holidays period and you know we recognize the significant increase in maritime activities associated with both the local and international tourism during this time so we had additional patrols deployed to key areas, in addition to patrols that we have but these busy hubs like Placencia, Caye Caulker and Sarteneja, Commandant Coast Guard directed that we be proactive and position patrols in those areas in order to be able to provide the service to the Belizean people so these patrols were equipped, we had divers, we had medics to ensure we had rapid response capability for any maritime incidents including search and rescue, vessel emergencies and other safety related situations so this increased presence also focus on maritime law enforcement, boating safety and also the deterrence of criminal activity across these areas so we are pleased to report there was no major incidents recorded in the areas where we enhanced our patrols and it reflects the effectiveness of proactive operational approach as well as the corporation in adhering to maritime safety guidelines."
