While we were at Coast Guard Headquarters, we asked the Rear Admiral how they're handling those rising fuel prices. He told us they've had to be a lot more strategic about which missions they launch-but at the end of the day, when duty calls, they have to go, no matter the cost:
Gregory Soberanis, Rear Admiral
"We operate in a fluid environment and these things will happen because these things are beyond the organizations control, it is beyond the government's control really and so we have been trained to adapt and adjust to evolving situations and looking at how do we meet our mission and mandate while addressing the challenges that we may face have to face so for us it's not an issue really it's just a matter of reorganizing, reconfiguring, how we're postured, how we move and how we operate and be able to at the end of the day meet our desired end state."

"Have you guys had to increase your budget or limit the amount of operations that take place, what have you chosen?"
Gregory Soberanis, Rear Admiral
"Well, it's a balance of looking at how we move and ensuring that whatever movement we do Is intentional, deliberate, more calculated, more targeted and so for us while we do face a challenge, it's not an issue when it comes to the level of security and safety that we provide in the maritime domain."
