In the past week, there has been an avalanche of information about the deeds and misdeeds of government, Glenn D. Godfrey, and millions of dollars in Social Security. But with big figures and big maneuvers with major international players we wondered, how much of all this has been getting through to regular viewers who watch the news to be entertained as much as they watch it to be informed. So Keith Swift hit the streets today to find out just how much you understood.

In just the past two weeks headline after headline has brought to the forefront allegations of misuse of millions of Social Security dollars. Now if we are to believe those headlines those millions are the people’s millions. But out here on the street those same people either don’t know what’s happening or even worse some just don’t care.
#1: To be honest with you I haven’t been in tune with the news because I work at sea and I have been out at sea for a while
Q: So you haven’t seen read the stories or heard the news?
#1: No not yet but I will have to make sure I get in touch with that now.
Q: As a university student how you feel when you see a headline of public finances and private businesses?
#2: I don’t know.
Q: Does it concern you?
#2: I don’t think so.
Q: You understand what’s been reported in the news about Social Security money?
#3: Something I heard on the news but I don’t really know what’s going on with that.
Q: You have a problem with SSB money being used to fund private businesses?
#4: No I don’t have no problem.
But some did have a problem with it and we found those who read deeply into the headlines and got past the high finance talk to the heart of the matter. Many had heavy concerns about the alleged misuse of social security dollars.
#5: I have a big problem with that because all that money could help poor people. Right now I need help. On three books I just spent $93.50 on for my granddaughter to go to school.
#6: Well yes the only ones who don’t get anything are the workers.
Q: So it concerns you?
#6: Well yes.
Q: Do you care that it is happening?
#6: Of course I care.
#7: That sounds corrupted.
Q: You pay Social Security?
#7: Yes.
Q: Do you agree with SSB money being used to fund private businesses?
#7: No, no, no. Social Security I don’t even want to say it on TV but they scammed me already.
#8: Would you like that? You money going into a private businessman pocket? Nobody wouldn’t like that.
#9: That doesn’t sound too correct to be using the people’s money for their own business and progress. It doesn’t sound correct but God will deal with them don’t worry; you leave them to God.
#4: The way I see it I am a man of God so I see Musa as a man who just needs to surrender to God and let the Holy Spirit work through Musa so that God can give Musa words to speak forth in this nation of Belize and bless this nation.
