Speaking on the adjournment today, two Opposition representatives discussed the Carnival contract at length. Since 7NEWS broke the story three weeks ago, the contract has been passed around more than the collection tray at your parish church. One man who has a unique perspective on it is Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez who supported it even before he saw it. Now, Boots says, the Musa administration must fix it, but it must also put its divided house in order.

Hon. Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Port Loyola Area Rep.
“The clauses in the contract that is in contravention in terms of the best interest of Belize people I think the Prime Minister in his wisdom along with his Cabinet must clarify. Because I don’t think anyone wants to throw away $100 million worth of investment in a country. Madam Speaker, I belong to team Belize and this country is first and foremost. And the Prime Minister needs to be reminded that Team Belize consists of all the people in this country; all the people in this country and all of us in this National Assembly. And like anything else, Madam Speaker, I used to be a footballer, not the greatest footballer, but I understand one thing and that is that when you fit on a team, you fit on a team. When the man kicks the ball Madam Speaker and he trips on you and he scores on the goalkeeper you call that an auto-goal and you can live with that. But when you have your own team players turning around and intentionally scoring goal on your goalkeeper, the Prime Minister must wake up and do what he has to do. As far as what I know, at the end of the day this is his ship and if he can’t control it I think they always say the job of a leader is to lead. If you can’t lead might as well you leave.”

The Prime Minister rebutted by saying that the contract was under review, but it is not in jeopardy of being pulled.
