It was below the major news radar but on Monday in Belmopan a Magistrate threw out the charge of disorderly conduct against political activist Kenny Morgan. Morgan was famously arrested for a comment about a grenade that he made inside the assembly chamber at a house meeting on December 10th. Later that night he was taken into police custody after hosting an awards show at the Bliss Center. Morgan was made to spend the entire weekend in police lockdown between Belize City and Belmopan despite attempts by the Leader of the Opposition to secure bail for him on the minor charge. Morgan was finally released after his arraignment two days later on the Monday morning. This past Monday the charge was dismissed by the presiding Magistrate because the prosecutor failed to comply with a court order to disclose evidence to the defense. The prosecutor also wasn't ready on time. Since a plea was already taken at the arraignment, Morgan cannot be retried and he was pronounced not guilty.
