'Pawpa' Mena will be nominated for mayor of Dangriga on the UDP ticket from his hospital bed tomorrow. That's the ruling of Chief Elections Officer Stuart Leslie after receiving word that Mena, who received first-degree burns to 25% of his body, will not be well enough to go to the Dangriga Elections and boundaries Office to nominate himself tomorrow.
As a special accommodation, Assistant Elections Officer Noreen Fairweather, accompanied by a justice of the peace will take the nomination from Mena at the Southern Regional Hospital for him to sign. As we understand it, the decision was made after a full review of the law by government's legal advisor. Mena, who is still recovering from burns he received on Wednesday night, has contracted an infection and must remain hospitalized for at least the remainder of the workweek.
