But that little insurance hustle will probably hardly register in what's called the Corruption Perception Index. It's an annual review of 163 nations by an international corruption watchdog agency called Transparency International. This years Belize is ranked 66th of those 163 nations with a corruption rating of 3.7, with ten representing the least corrupt, and 0, the most corrupt. Belize is tied at that spot with Cuba and Grenada.
For Belize's it's part of a steady decline in the corruption index. In 2004, we were ranked 60th, in 2005, 62nd, and now 66th. On this year's list, Finland is number one, meaning least corrupt with a 9.7 rating, and Haiti is in last place with a 1.8 rating. Read the index here.
