Christine Perriot was fired because she was a union activist. It's long been the collective consensus in public opinion, but now the Labour Commissioner has confirmed that it is also his finding.
Remember that report into her firing which the Minister ordered to be finished by March 16th? Well extracts of the findings were released today in a press statement from the Ministry of Labour. It says: "despite BTL's pronouncements to the contrary, the acting Labour Commissioner finds that 'Mrs. Perriot's rights may have been violated'"
And while that may be the finding, the Ministry can't do anything about it really stating that, "the Supreme Court is where the remedy for this wrong lies." Aware of this powerlessness to sight a fire, but not to fight it, The commissioner's report also finds that the Labor Act should be amended to provide workers protection from unfair dismissal.
And the Supreme Court is just where Christine Perriot is taking her case, tomorrow a hearing will be held before Justice John Muria where Perriot's attorney Lois Young Barrow will ask the court to declare that her termination was wrongful. Young Barrow will then ask the court to re-instate her and compensate her. Additionally, Young Barrow will ask the court for interim and immediate reinstatement.
Andrew Marshalleck will represent BTL.
