When is the date for the general election? It’s a question that everyone seems to be asking and while many may speculate, only one man really knows. That’s the Prime Minister and we’re not sure that even he has decided on what the date will be. But speaking to the media this afternoon in Orange Walk, he did let on just a little.

Sir will the elections be before or after Christmas?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister
“At this point in time, I can say it won’t be before Christmas. At this point in time I can say.”

“On another note, the Transparency International just ranked Belize more corrupt. Could you comment on this as well?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
“Yes well its very disappointing of course that this happens. We are analyzing the situation to determine how they arrived at that. I can only assume that it came about because of the tremendous bad press that Belize has been getting, particularly at home. These people of course look at what Channel 7 has to say and what other newspapers and the media have to say.”

“But the media will only say what is happening in our country.”

“Oh really? That’s news to me.”

So it’s not your fault, it’s our fault.
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
“No, no I am not saying that. Don’t put words in my mouth, Jules, don’t you try that.”

Sir the principal for Belize Bank was due September 24th. I know it was not paid. What is the arrangement?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
“We are nearing concluding the matter but they have agreed to an extension.”
Jules Vasquez,
Is that with a number of side concessions because I know Mr. Ashcroft is not a philanthropist when it comes to banking.
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
“No, absolutely no concessions. Mr. Ashcroft wants to get his money and we have assured him that he will get his money through the private sector and we’re looking now to the end of October.”
Jules Vasquez,
And it is the Belize Health Partners that will take it up and they will pay the full indebtedness?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
“Is that the group with Dr. Vinny? Yes that is.”
Jules Vasquez,
And they will pay the full indebtedness?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
They’re looking to secure the complete financing for the project.”
