After the details of it were exposed, former Prime Minister Said Musa had agreed to release the agreement. That was two weeks before the election, but he never did. Well now it’s out in the open for all to see – and not on freeBelize.org. For the first time that we know of, a government contract has been posted on the government website, belize.gov.bz. Of course, the meat of it has already been exposed. That is the guaranteed payment of $300,000 a month as a credit to government’s account for serviced rendered or to be rendered.
But interestingly – while the former Prime Minister said it is for a one year term - the new agreement says that it, “shall be valid for a period of 5 years.” But it does go unto say that is pending approval from the National Assembly. Of course, the PUP government that signed it no longer has the majority in the House and so they cannot give that approval. So it is left to be seen if the Barrow administration will follow through with it.
